Manage remote images in your emails
Remote images are images that load from an external website when you open an email. Titan gives you control over when these images load, which can help prevent third-party tracking images from loading automatically.
This article explains how remote images work and how you can manage them in Titan.

What are remote images?
Some emails contain images that are stored on an external website instead of being included directly in the email. These are called remote images.
When a remote image loads, your email client connects to the website hosting that image. Some senders can use these image requests to determine when an email is opened.
Titan can prevent remote images from loading automatically based on your image-loading settings.
Why does Titan block remote images?
Remote images are loaded from external servers and may pose privacy or security risks, especially when an email comes from an unknown sender. Titan blocks them by default to help keep you protected and lets you choose when to load them.
Manage remote images
You can choose how Titan loads external images in your emails from the Preferences settings in Titan Webmail.
| alert-warning | These settings can be changed only in Titan Webmail. The setting you select is automatically applied when you use Titan on your Android or iOS device as well. |
Change your remote image settings
- In Titan Webmail, click Settings.
- In the Settings panel, click Preferences.
- In Preferences, open the General section.
- In the Reading section, find Load external images in messages.
- In Load external images in messages, choose one of the following options:
- Always load — Loads images automatically in all messages.
- From known senders — Loads images from contacts, your domain, and senders you have approved.
- Always ask — Keeps images hidden until you approve the sender
You will see your selected option displayed next to Load external images in messages.
Show remote images in an email
If you select Always ask, Titan keeps remote images hidden until you choose to display them.
- In Titan Webmail, open the email containing remote images.
- In the email, find the message indicating that remote images are blocked.
- In the email message, click Show images.
The remote images will appear in the email once they are allowed to load.
If you do not click Show images, the remote images remain blocked. You can still read the email text and view other content that does not require a remote image.
Marking an email as not spam
Marking a sender as Not spam does not automatically mean that remote images from that sender can load.
Explicitly trusting a sender is a stronger signal than simply allowing their email to reach your inbox.
If you do not want remote images to load automatically, select Always ask.
