Two‑Factor Authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of protection for your Titan email account. Once it's on, logging in needs both your password and a one-time code from an authenticator app on your phone, so your account stays safe even if someone else gets your password. This article shows you how to turn on 2FA and how to change your 2FA settings afterward.
In this article:
What you can do
- Turn on 2FA for your account using an authenticator app
- Save recovery codes so you can still log in if you lose access to your authenticator app
- Change your authenticator app at any time
- View your recovery codes whenever you need them
Prerequisites
- You'll need your Titan account password on hand to confirm each change.
- You'll need an authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, or Zoho OneAuth. If you don't have one yet, download one before you start (see Step 4 below for links).
| alert-warning | Once 2FA is turned on, you won't be able to access your Titan email through third-party apps like the Gmail app or Outlook. If you rely on a third-party email app, keep this in mind before you continue. |
How to set up 2FA
Follow these steps to turn on 2FA for your account.
- In the Titan client, click the Settings icon (gear icon) in the top right corner.
- Click Preferences, then click Security.
- In the Security panel, click Set up now.
- Enter your account password to verify your identity, then click Confirm (or the equivalent confirmation button).
- If you already use an authenticator app, click I have an authenticator app. If this is your first time setting up 2FA, download one of these apps first:
- Google Authenticator (Available on Android & iOS)
- Microsoft Authenticator (Available on Android & iOS)
- Authy (Available on Android & iOS)
-
Zoho OneAuth (Available on Android & iOS)
- Open your authenticator app and add your Titan account by scanning the QR code shown on screen, or by entering the setup key manually.
- Once your account appears in the authenticator app, click Next in Titan.
- Enter the 6-digit code shown in your authenticator app into the field provided.
- Click Verify.
You'll see a confirmation message once the code is accepted.
- Choose to email or copy your recovery codes, and store them somewhere safe.
| alert-success | Keep a copy of your recovery codes, or email them to an alternate address. You'll need a recovery code to log in if you ever don't have your authenticator app with you. |
What success looks like
Once you've saved your recovery codes, 2FA is turned on for your account. You'll see a confirmation screen letting you know setup is complete, and your Security settings will now show 2FA as active.
How to edit 2FA Settings
Once 2FA is set up, you can change your authenticator app or view your recovery codes at any time.
- In the top right corner, click the Settings icon (gear icon).
- Click Preferences, then click Security.

Troubleshooting
Problem: I'm locked out because I lost my phone or no longer have my authenticator app.
Cause: Without the authenticator app, Titan can't generate the 6-digit code your account needs to log in.
Fix: Use one of the recovery codes you saved when you set up 2FA to log in, then set up a new authenticator app from your Security settings.
Problem: My third-party email app (like Gmail or Outlook) stopped working.
Cause: Titan blocks third-party client access automatically once 2FA is turned on, to keep your account secure. Fix: Use Titan's webmail or the Titan app to access your email, or turn off 2FA if you need to keep using a third-party client.
Problem: The QR code won't scan.
Cause: This is usually caused by poor lighting or camera focus issues on your phone.
Fix: Use the manual setup key shown next to the QR code instead of scanning it.
