If your domain is registered or hosted with A2 Hosting, you need to add two MX records (settings that tell the internet where to deliver your email) and one TXT record (a text-based setting used here to verify your domain, also called an SPF record) before your Titan mailbox can send and receive mail. This article walks you through adding these records, whichever way your A2 Hosting account is set up. Once you're done, your domain will be ready to send and receive email through Titan.
Before you start
You need to know where your domain's DNS is actively managed — this is called your domain's authoritative DNS zone. It tells you whether to add your records in A2 Hosting's cPanel or somewhere else, like Cloudflare or GoDaddy.
Titan supports two setups with A2 Hosting, depending on your domain's name servers:
- Name servers are ns1–ns4.a2hosting.com → your DNS is managed in A2 Hosting's cPanel. Follow Option 1.
- Name servers are dns1–dns4.name-services.com → your domain is only registered with A2 Hosting, and DNS is managed in the A2 Hosting Customer Portal. Follow Option 2.
If you're not sure which applies to you, see How to find the authoritative (active) DNS zone for my domain before continuing.
| alert-warning | Before adding Titan's records, check your DNS zone for any existing MX or SPF (TXT) records and remove them. Having more than one MX or SPF record can cause conflicts, which can stop your email from being delivered or verified correctly. Only Titan's MX and SPF records should be present. |
Option 1: A2 Hosting manages your DNS
Use this section if your domain's name servers are ns1.a2hosting.com, ns2.a2hosting.com, ns3.a2hosting.com, and ns4.a2hosting.com. You'll add your records in A2 Hosting's cPanel Zone Editor.
Open the Zone Editor
- Log in to the A2 Hosting client area.
- Click Home.
-
Under your hosting plan, click cPanel login. You're logged in to cPanel automatically.
- In cPanel's search bar, search for Zone Editor.
-
Click Zone Editor to open it.
- Next to your domain, click Manage.
-
Click + Add Record.
Add the first MX record
- Set the Type field to MX, then enter these values:
-
Name/Valid zone name: your domain (for example,
domain.com) -
Destination:
mx1.titan.email -
Priority:
10 -
TTL:
14400
-
Name/Valid zone name: your domain (for example,
| Refers to | Mail server | Priority | TTL |
| @ | mx1.titan.email | 10 | 1 hour |
-
Click Save Record.
Add the second MX record
- Repeat steps 7–9 to add a second MX record with these values:
- Type: MX
- Name/Valid zone name: your domain
-
Destination:
mx2.titan.email -
Priority:
20 -
TTL:
14400
| Refers to | Mail server | Priority | TTL |
| @ | mx2.titan.email | 20 | 1 hour |
Add the TXT (SPF) record
- Repeat steps 7–9 once more to add your TXT record, with these values:
- Type: TXT
- Name/Valid zone name: your domain
-
Text:
v=spf1 include:spf.titan.email ~all -
TTL:
14400
| Record Type | Refers to | TXT Value | TTL |
| TXT | @ |
v=spf1 include:spf.titan.email ~all
|
1 hour |
Option 2: A2 Hosting only registered your domain
Use this section if your domain's name servers are dns1.name-services.com, dns2.name-services.com, dns3.name-services.com, and dns4.name-services.com. You'll add your records in the A2 Hosting Customer Portal.
Open DNS Management
- Log in to the A2 Hosting client area.
-
Click Domains, then click My Domains.
- Click the domain you want to set up.
-
In the left menu, under Manage, click DNS Management.
Add the first MX record
- Add a new record with these values:
-
Host Name:
@ - Record Type: MX
-
Address:
mx1.titan.email -
Priority:
10
-
Host Name:
| Refers to | Mail server | Priority | TTL |
| @ | mx1.titan.email | 10 | 1 hour |
-
Click Save Changes.
Add the second MX record
- Repeat steps 5–6 to add a second MX record with these values:
-
Host Name:
@ - Record Type: MX
-
Address:
mx2.titan.email -
Priority:
20
-
Host Name:
| Refers to | Mail server | Priority | TTL |
| @ | mx2.titan.email | 20 | 1 hour |
Add the SPF (TXT) record
- Repeat steps 5–6 once more to add your SPF record, with these values:
-
Host Name:
@ - Record Type: SPF
-
Address:
v=spf1 include:spf.titan.email ~all
-
Host Name:
| Record Type | Refers to | TXT Value | TTL |
| TXT | @ |
v=spf1 include:spf.titan.email ~all
|
1 hour |
-
Click Save Changes.
What success looks like
Once you've saved your MX and TXT (SPF) records, they're active in your DNS zone — though it can take a few hours for the changes to spread across the internet. You can verify your domain once verification shows your MX records are pointing to mx1.titan.email and mx2.titan.email, and your SPF record includes spf.titan.email. Your Titan mailbox is then ready to send and receive email.
| alert-success | DNS changes usually take effect within a few hours, but can take up to 24–48 hours to fully spread across the internet. If your domain doesn't verify right away, wait and try again later. |
Troubleshooting
Problem: Your domain fails verification or email delivery doesn't work after adding the records.
Cause: An old MX or SPF record is still present alongside Titan's, so Titan's records aren't the only ones being used.
Fix: Go back to Zone Editor (Option 1) or DNS Management (Option 2), remove any MX or SPF/TXT records that don't point to Titan, and save your changes again.
Problem: You can't find the option to add DNS records in your A2 Hosting account.
Cause: Your domain's DNS might not actually be managed by A2 Hosting — for example, it could be on Cloudflare or another provider even though A2 Hosting registered it.
Fix: Check how to find your authoritative DNS zone and add the records with that provider instead.
Problem: Records were saved, but verification still fails after a few days.
Cause: The Name/Valid zone name or Host Name field wasn't set correctly, so the record isn't attached to the right domain.
Fix: Reopen the record in Zone Editor or DNS Management and confirm the Name/Host field matches your domain exactly (or @ for Option 2), then save again.
