Mozilla Thunderbird is a free, third-party email application that you can use to send and receive your Titan email. This article walks you through connecting your Titan account to Thunderbird using manual server settings. It's for any Titan user who wants to check their business email from the Thunderbird desktop app instead of (or alongside) the Titan web app.
Prerequisites
Before you start, check the following:
- Third-party email access must be turned on for your account. If you haven't enabled this yet, see Enable Titan on other apps first.
- If two-factor authentication (2FA) is turned on, Thunderbird won't be able to connect. Titan blocks third-party apps like Thunderbird when 2FA is active, to keep your account secure. If you need 2FA off to complete this setup, see Setting up and editing Two-Factor Authentication settings.
- If your Titan email was set up through GoDaddy, follow GoDaddy's Thunderbird setup article instead of this one — the steps are different.
- If your Titan email was set up through Blacknight, MonoVM, DomainDiscount24, Fluccs, or Domain Central, use this article instead — your account is hosted on EU servers with different settings.
| alert-warning | Turning on 2FA after you've set up Thunderbird will block Thunderbird from connecting again. If this happens, you'll need to turn 2FA off, or generate an app-specific password if your account supports one, before Thunderbird can reconnect. |
Set up your account
- Open Thunderbird.
- Click Account Settings.
- In the Account Settings panel, click Account Actions.
- Click Add Mail Account. A window opens asking for your account details.
- Enter your name, your full Titan email address, and your Titan email password.
- Click Configure manually.
- Enter the following incoming server settings:
- Server: imap.titan.email
- Port: 993
- Connection security: SSL/TLS
-
Authentication method: Normal password
- Enter the following outgoing server settings:
- Server: smtp.titan.email
- Port: 465
- Connection security: SSL/TLS
-
Authentication method: Normal password
- Click Done (or Re-test if Thunderbird flags a warning, then Done once the test passes).
| alert-success | Your username is the same as your full Titan email address for both incoming and outgoing servers. |
What you'll see when you're done
Thunderbird loads your Titan mailbox automatically, and your inbox appears in the left-hand folder list within a few seconds. You can now send and receive Titan email directly from Thunderbird.
Troubleshooting
Problem: Thunderbird says it can't connect, or the account setup fails.
Cause: Two-factor authentication is turned on for your Titan account, which blocks third-party apps like Thunderbird.
Fix: Turn off 2FA, then try adding the account again.
Problem: Thunderbird won't accept your password.
Cause: Third-party email access isn't enabled yet, or the password entered doesn't match your Titan account password.
Fix: Confirm third-party access is turned on in your Titan settings, then re-enter your Titan password exactly as it is (check for extra spaces or autofill errors).
Problem: The manual setup screen doesn't match what's shown here.
Cause: Your Titan account may be provisioned through GoDaddy or an EU-hosted partner (Blacknight, MonoVM, DomainDiscount24, Fluccs, or Domain Central), which use different server settings.
Fix: Use the GoDaddy or EU-hosted setup article linked in the Prerequisites section above instead of these steps.
