Email Backup lets you save a copy of your mailbox to your computer using a third-party email client. This is useful if you want an offline copy of your emails, or if you're switching to a new device. Anyone with a Titan email account can do this — no admin access is needed.
Before You Start
You'll need your Titan email account connected to a third-party client — Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or Outlook — before you can export your emails. If you haven't set this up yet, follow Configure Titan on other apps using IMAP/POP first, then come back to this article.
| alert-success | The backup steps are different for each email client. Use the section below that matches the client you connected your Titan account to. |
| tabs | |||
| Thunderbird |
You'll see the emails appear as individual files in the folder you chose. |
||
| Apple Mail |
Mail exports your mailboxes as .mbox files into the folder you selected.
|
||
| Outlook |
You'll see a .pst file saved at the location you chose. This file contains all the emails from the folder you selected. |
What Success Looks Like
Once you've completed the steps for your client, you'll have a backup file (or set of files) saved to your computer containing the emails you exported. You can open this backup at any time, even if the original emails are later deleted from your Titan mailbox.
Troubleshooting
Problem: I don't see an "Export" or "Save As" option in my email client.
Cause: Your Titan account isn't connected to the client through IMAP/POP yet.
Fix: Set up your account using Configure Titan on other apps using IMAP/POP, then repeat the backup steps above.
Problem: My new Apple Mail export didn't replace my old backup.
Cause: Apple Mail never overwrites an existing .mbox file — it saves each export as a separate file.
Fix: Check your export folder for multiple .mbox files (for example, "My Mailbox 2.mbox") and open the most recent one.
Problem: I can't find my exported Outlook .pst file.
Cause: It's easy to lose track of the file location chosen in Step 6 of the Outlook export.
Fix: Use your computer's file search for files with a .pst extension, or repeat the export and note the folder you choose in Step 6.
