Email attachments let you share files like images, videos, and PDFs directly in your email. If an attachment won't send or won't come through, it's usually because of one of two limits Titan applies to keep your mailbox secure. This article explains both limits and how to work around them.
Attachment is a blocked file type
Problem: You try to attach a file, but Titan won't let you send it, or an incoming email arrives without the attachment you were expecting.
Cause: File attachments are one of the most common ways computer viruses spread. To protect you from malware, Titan blocks certain file types on both outgoing and incoming email. Blocked types include (but aren't limited to):
ade, adp, apk, bat, chm, cmd, com, cpl, dll, dmg, exe, hta, ins, isp, jar, js, jse, lib, lnk, mde, msc, msi, msp, mst, nsh, pif, scr, sct, shb, sys, vb, vbe, vbs, vxd, wsc, wsf, wsh, cab
Fix:
- Check your file's extension against the list above.
- If your file type is blocked, compress it into a .zip file before attaching it. Titan allows zipped files even when the original file type is restricted.
- If you're expecting a blocked attachment from someone else, ask them to zip the file and resend it.
Attachment is larger than the size limit
Problem: You try to send a file, or a group of files, and get a message saying the attachment size limit has been exceeded.
Cause: Titan allows up to 30 MB of attachments per email. If you attach more than one file, Titan adds up all their sizes — the total still can't go over 30 MB.
Fix:
- Check the combined size of all the files you're attaching.
- If the total is over 30 MB, remove one or more attachments so the email is under the limit.
- Upload the larger files to a file storage service, such as Google Drive or Dropbox.
- Copy the shareable link from the storage service and paste it into your email instead of attaching the file directly.
What you'll see when it's fixed
Once your attachment is under 30 MB and isn't a blocked file type, you can send the email as usual — the compose window won't show a size or file-type error, and the recipient will receive the attachment (or your shared file link) normally.
